" The Board met in July to receive updates from Local Organising Committee on progress with planning for the event. While the Board has overall oversight it also peforms a useful 'audit role'."

"The Directors of each area of responsibility have been laying preparatory plans. All items of their plans are being incorporated into a Project Master worksheet (a technique used in the construction industry) with timelines for achieving each item. This will help greatly with planning and should ensure timely delivery of the entire project."

"One of the main challenges for 2009 is the obtaining of accommodation in the Aberdeen area given the continuous high demand for hotel accommodation owing to the buoyant local economy driven by the offshore oil industry. However progress has been made and we shall soon be in a position to finalise plans and costs."

The sport of curling was to the forefront at an Awards ceremony
organised by the Aberdeen Convention Bureau (Aberdeen City Council/
Visit Scotland) in Aberdeen on Thursday 20 November. George Esson,
Chairman of the organising committee for the European Championships
which will be held in Aberdeen in December 2009, was presented with an
Ambassadors Award certificate by the city's Lord Provost at a black
tie dinner in recognition of bringing a major event to the city."

"A company entitled Curling Championships (Aberdeen) Limited has been incorporated as the parent organisation for the 2009 event. This company has three directors nominated by RCCC and three nominated by Curl Aberdeen with an independent Chairman Ronnie Scott Brown who is an experienced businessman/lawyer.
